On-Q Pain Buster
|
| Pain Pump | |
This technique utilizes a special perforated catheter to bathe the surgical wound with anessthetic. It is typically used in outpatient surgery although it can also be used in the hospital. The catheter is connected to a plastic bulb containing anesthetic which slowly infuses into the wound over 2-4 days before finally emptying. At that point, the patient simply pulls out catheter. Almost all patients who undergo outpatient surgery by Dr. Wodajo will be provided one of these pumps. The technique allows for a significant reduction in surgical pain and permits the patient to use less oral pain medication. |
